2024-2025 CBA season is set to kick off on October 12th, with defending champions Liaoning Flying Leopards hosting Zhejiang. This week, Liaoning underwent technical and physical tests for the upcoming season, and all participating players passed with flying colors. New foreign import Achour arrived in Shenyang last weekend and has already joined the team's daily training sessions. Fogg and Shaoyeck are also expected to join the team soon. The preseason games for the new CBA season will begin on September 20th, with Liaoning facing off against Shenzhen, Beijing, and Ningbo in the Dandong division, making their final preparations for the upcoming season.

▶ "Old but not washed up" pass the tests

The new CBA season features a comprehensive physical test for all players, with only the four national team members who competed in the three-on-three basketball event at the Paris Olympics exempted from the tests. The test includes a two-minute shooting intensity, weighted bench press, weighted squat, and specialized speed-endurance training, with 90 points in the specialized speed-endurance test and a total of 400 points as the passing line. Each player has one chance for the test and one chance for retest before the preseason starts, and only those who pass the test are eligible to participate in the preseason and the league.

Liaoning conducted the physical test in Qingdao, and in the specialized speed-endurance test, 37-year-old veteran Han Dejun averaged 73.46 seconds, surpassing the requirement. In the other three tests, Liaoning's captain breezed through. 34-year-old Li Xiaoxu was even more impressive, with a total score of 420 in the first three tests, comfortably surpassing the 400-point passing line. In addition to the two veterans, the young newcomers who joined the team in the past two years also passed the physical tests successfully.

▶ Foreign imports gradually join the team

During the offseason, Liaoning exercised their priority renewal rights for foreign imports Fogg and Cooper and added Achour and Shaoyeck to the roster. Achour arrived in Shenyang last weekend and joined the team immediately. Achour, 30 years old and 2.13 meters tall, weighs 102 kilograms and plays as a center. He previously played for Nanjing Tongxi in the CBA, averaging 18.3 points, 10.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.7 blocks per game.

Another new addition, Shaoyeck, is about to arrive in Shenyang. Last season, he played for Shandong, averaging 19.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.2 steals in 23.2 minutes per game. In a recent interview, Shaoyeck said, "I'm excited to join a new team in the upcoming season. They are the defending champions, and I'm looking forward to helping them win another championship. It would be my first championship as a professional player, and I'm excited about everything there."

▶ New foreign imports to make their debut in the CBA preseason

The CBA preseason will kick off this Friday, with 20 teams divided into five divisions for the games. In the first stage of the preseason, Liaoning will compete against Beijing, Shenzhen, and Ningbo in the Dandong division. The Liaoning vs. Shenzhen game will take place at 19:30 on September 20th. The second stage of the preseason will take place on October 3rd, with Liaoning playing against Jilin, Shandong, and Tianjin in the Huludao division. Liaoning's new foreign imports and some young newcomers are expected to make their debut in the preseason.

The new CBA season will start on October 12th, with Liaoning hosting Zhejiang in the opening game. The regular season will consist of 46 games, six fewer than the previous season, with two break periods. After the first 10 rounds of the regular season, there will be a break period of over 20 days. The first Liaoning-Guangdong showdown of the season will take place on December 30th at Liaoning's home court, and the second encounter will take place on March 5th, 2025.
